It's the end of the year...

and the end of a little tiny era as we reach the end of the short lived Animated comic. Where I ask, what is better, basketball or Britney Spears in my look at CROSSROADS.

Plus, the oddly familiar 2009 ANNUAL!

I do wonder if the UK Animated was always destined for a quick cancellation, being based directly on an animated TF series. Historically up to the point of Animated, Transformers animated series on UK television never fared too well, either being shunted off to inaccessible timeslots or inaccessible channels, or indeed even both.

Personally, I always chalked it up to UK broadcasters being nervous over toy-based series with a notable action (i.e. violence) quotient. It would explain why the only TF series that has had consistently decent airtime over here over the last few years is Rescue Bots, the "safer" alternative to even the kiddified 2015 Robots in Disguise.

Looking at the larger picture though, wasn't the Animated franchise's false start partly attributed to the success of the live-action movie line? The toys from the first through the second film were *phenomenal* sellers, but with the apparent cost of cannibalising Hasbro's own sales on the Animated line.

On an appropriately topical note, it's welcome news to see that John McCrea is one of the guests at this year's TF Nation. Kind of surprising in one respect, as there was a certain contingent of fan who really didn't like McCrea's work on Animated, apparently exacerbated by a negative experience with him. Never really had a major problem with his Animated work itself, personally.
