Transformers 159: Max Gets the Shaft.

This week, despite being brothers for 17 years, we get the first ever meeting between Buster and Spike Witwicky! Luckily one of them wears a hat to make sure we can tell the difference.

Plus, Shockwave doesn't die and Kup is Prowl if he had war stories.

All in my look at The Desert Island of Space Part 2!

Just don't ask what the Sparkler Mini-Bots turn into.

I have great memories of getting this issue along with a few others at a fete and it pushed me into becoming a regular reader. Even now it holds up well as a strong action piece as well as showing Ratbat at his craftiest.

Just as Bob didn't like the Targetmasters, Larry Hama didn't like the idea of a Frankensteinesque super soldier as the new Cobra leader - and ditched him at pretty much the first opportunity. The origin was imposed by animated TV adverts - otherwise it's likely Hama would have gone for something more earthly.

More propaganda that Grimlock was Furman in disguise. Lies! Lies! Grimlock answered those letters himself. I know The Truth. Besides, Grimlock was busy being leader and couldn't be expected to know all about every new arrival so no wonder his Sparkler Mini Bot knowledge was limited. He needed his time to answer all his letters!

In one respect the UK cover is better than the American one... Having the island spaceship on the front cover completely ruined the surprise that it's a spaceship! I love how the UK cover has it just off-panel, so readers can gasp in awe when they see it in the comic.

Does the title give the game away? Maybe... but 'Desert Island of Space" is ambiguous, and could mean that it's FROM space. That scene were it transforms is way cool.

for some reason the normal comment box wont load in for me

is this a dastardly plan to block me ?! ;p

anyway im not so sure that this is the only appearance of fort max in battle station mode didnt he transform in to this mode in the first part of the underbase saga ?

it was used as a boat by grimlock pm prime and blaster at the time

The main box isn't appearing for me either at the moment, the website must be out to get both of us!

I may have mixed my Fort Max modes up a bit.

Though the comments box does appear on my phone (as can be seen here!). Maybe it's a Firefox thing?

maybe

i use seamonkey though but that is a firefox derivative it still identifies it self as firefox

anyway as far as i am concerned this is the last high point of budianskies stories untill the underbase saga

there are a few decent stories in between such as totalled but most of it is utterly dire

and the website is out to get all of us !!!

not even the special teams can save us now !

Huzzah!

I fixed it through the cunning method of forgetting about it and never getting onto Weebly.

I’ll miss the Throttlebots. They grew on me over the years.

This wouldn’t be the first time Shockwave was thought dead after falling to Earth from space and could have explained it as “I’m a space gun, so I’m indestructible.” Anyway, nobody’s ever really dead in comic books, so the British creative team doesn’t have to contort itself too hard to explain how he’s still alive in the future.

As you point out, if you’re only reading the American comics, Shockwave’s fall from space in this issue links up nicely to his re-emergence in a later (Furman) issue.

I can completely buy that Kup learned his lesson about how he should have listened to Fortress Maximus, and it doesn’t have to be that he now accepts Maximus as the leader, just that he shouldn’t have dismissed all his ideas out of hand.

This is presumably way too late to be of any help to your book, but FWIW, when you say “segway” I think you mean “segue.” “Segway” is the brand of two-wheeled motorised transport. :-)
