Transformation G2 2: War With An End.

And almost as soon as it began, the British content of the UK G2 comic was over. And it's a very odd issue as it tries to reposition the book as a reprint title.

Still, discover what Grimlock's been up to with his face, how Megatron earns his frequent flier miles and the shocking and surprising way Bludgeon escapes.

All in my look at WAR ZONE!

And boy am I glad I've only had to write one thing this week. Though it's my only real break this month...

so you are going to skip the US G2 comic and skipping to ReGeneration ?

.....Sounds like punishing yourself needlessly.

I really don't get how they picked the reprints they did. Why not have Megatron bump off Bludgeon and save having to reprint two back-up strips that clearly read as them? Why not start off with the US #3 and alter some text so it seems like the Autobots went after Jhiaxus?

"ReGeneration One"

This issue was the last regular one I purchased - I really wasn't impressed with the comic at all, feeling it pitched too young and doing far too much toy promotion at the expense of story and the prospect of reprints of issues I had only recently read wasn't enticing. So after this one I stopped buying, though picked up the final issue - and never did anything with the info in it.

Given the scale thing in Transformers and the way the panel is drawn, the intention may have been to have Megatron ride in the cockpit the same way some Transformers drove others in the classic series (Galvatron in Cyclonus springs to mind). And Starscream flying around with his light & sound unit on top of him is just plain silly; a sign of how too toy accurate artwork can be.

Perhaps now is the best time to throw out an idea - "Generation 2" is a terrible name for a franchise trying to attract a new generation of children (and it's particular bad in the UK where there was never a gap and indeed "G2" didn't appear on the toyline until 1994), and IIRC the tag line was actually dropped in the later stages. It's the ideal name for a collector focused line and nostalgia based franchise (which to a large extent is the audience pitch for the US comic, though in general nostalgia tends to need a whole generation to work) but there's just too much "the saga continues" about the term that's offputting for those who weren't there at the start.

"Also next week (as the final two issues have the Annual and the American series respectively)...sigh...ReGeneration One. "

You poor man.

Stu I have a wise comment struck in moderation, I was failed to prove I wasn't a robot! Which is kind of ironic.

Oh no dont worry Stuart I was basically asking if the next fleetway uK issue reprints issue 1 of US G2 and tries to make out these two issues were just a bad dream or something. And if you're going to do the rest of the the UK issues (being reprints of us G2?) or are going to skip straight forward to regeneration one. There's maybe not too much to say about G2. Some horrendous art. High kill count. Story isn't great...

Thought you were talking about ReGeneration One there, instead of G2
Cause G2 is still better then that abomination.

ReGeneration One, had so much promise and what we got were 4 bland 5 part "story arcs" that went down like a lead balloon.
And it could have been so much more.

G2 is kind of nightmarish but I don't think it's very good. Regeneration one is of similar quality but will be very interesting because I think we will all have views on how the story should have been wrapped up. Wildman dropping off it was ridiculous and I was pretty disappointed with Guido's take on what was already "rushed, will this do, am I getting paid enough?" Wildman.

And while it never ends - it did up until 2003 - the last UK originated comic material (aside from the one page Beast Wars comic strip advert). I genuinely enjoyed G2 on the shelves back in the day and wish it had continued, but I noticed how less newsagents stocked the issues as it went on, so it was clear it was a dead title walking even then.
