Prime gets to kick a lot of arse over this and the next couple of stories. I've got to say, it's a guilty pleasure watching Prime overcome his angst and then realise that, to solve all his problems, he just needs to beat the shit out of something. But then again, I am a fan of Joss Whedon's "Buffy" and "Angel", where characters philosophise for a while before coming to the same conclusion as Marvel Optimus. It's cathartic.
I think this issue is Jeff Anderson's finest work, to be honest (until the Last Days of Optimus Prime, that is) - that final panel of a torn-up Optimus haunted me as a child. Perhaps Wheeljack, like me, is just too taken aback at the detail Anderson has packed in?
personally i feel the action is hampered by andersons rather static pencils
prime never really feels like he is in motion more standing still and striking a pose
which is quite jarring coming from the fluid pencils of simpson or compared to senior next week
and his quips arent really in character either
that and wheeljacks rather curious response are my only quibbles with this issue
much stronger then the american offerings at any rate
I can see why some might find Jeff's work a little stiff - certainly, his later work in 'The Last Days...' was much more fluid. I just love his precision and detail, though. His work just looks so neat! Sadly, his contribution to Regeneration One #0 wasn't a patch on any of his previous stuff - but then really, on that series, only Guido Guidi has really excelled, in my opinion (actually, Geoff Senior's covers were a real return to form, so fair play there).
What is especially sweet is that Wheeljack isn't just drawn as looking shocked, he's about five times as shocked as any of the other Autobots. It's almost as if he's being sarcastic about it.
I haven't got the issue to hand, but he's on his knees in the last shot isn't he? What a drama queen!
i thougth that senior and delbo both were on form in regen 0
i know the general concensus is that delbo isnt well liked but i always liked his art and it was great to see him again
honestly id would have rather seen delbo do seniors section in issue 100
Was this the only time a price rise came without a free gift?
and cut content in the future
ie the black and white 5 pagers
Oh, I'm not sure, that'll be something to look out for in future. Transformation does try to placate readers with the promise of free gifts in the next two weeks and a bigger issue 100 though.
Made me giggle:
Stuart Webb. Who knows everything about nothing and not a lot about that.
