Transformation 80: Who Goes There

Well this is exciting, this week's Transformation, written two days ago, tries to imagine the future when it would be put up on the internet. But here I am, in that future and armed with the knowledge that between the two events I have seen both a Yeti and Jenna Coleman.

Guess which I came closer to touching.

The mind bending problems of when past meet future are also confronting Cyclonus as I look at:

Target: 2006 Part 2.

And some PICTURES on Facebook to give a clue as to the the solution of my Yeti riddle.

Given the use of a prototype spacebridge, is it possible the Autobots on Cybertron have been obtaining their information from Straxus's command post? Presumably his forces have stocked up on relevant locations for the space bridge. ("Anti-Autobot battle station here. New warriors there. Extremely delicate scientific equipment over there.") I've got a feeling it's not until Sky Lynx's introduction that anyone from the Ark has any direct contact with Cybertron, and certainly plot elements like Jetfire's distrust of Magnus's claims or later disappearances aren't settled by a quick phone call.

Did Furman actually have a full script of the movie? IIRC the introduction in the Titan trades states he had only a treatment hence some of the earlier elements such as "2006". And a synopsis would be even more likely to get muddled on this point.

Appropriately the Nostalgia & Comics advert takes me back. Many posts ago the Get Along Gang came up, remembered by some and utterly unfamiliar to others - they were the stars of the first ever Marvel comic I read (the first Collected Comics from winter 1985 - a gift from my aunts) and that's Montgomery "Good News" Moose and Zipper Cat just behind Frobisher. And there's Zoid Zoidzilla (I think he had a different name in other markets) above a rather familiar Ravage pose.

It's also a reminder of just how small superheroes were in the Marvel UK output at the time and in the next few years they'd be even less once Secret Wars II reached a conclusion and Spider-Man & Zoids was axed, leaving just the occasional back-up strip in licenced titles. One consequence was that in the late 1980s the DC heroes had a far stronger and more consistent presence on the newsstands than the Marvel ones, the complete reverse of the usual arrangement.

As far as I recall, I've only ever seen script mentioned (and the Titan trades aren't completely reliable as they for some reason give a completely different explanation of Death's Heads origin that anywhere else), but it could just as easily have been a synopsis, the vagaries of time mean there's been slightly different quotes given over the years.

Mind, the term "Life Spark" has only ever been found in that one draft script of Friedman's, so whether it ever cropped up in anything else for Furman to use as inspiration is pretty much (albeit informed) speculation.

Do all the Transformers have crumbs on their lips in this issue? :-]
