Happy birthday to us! This week sees the first anniversary of Transformation, so be sure to come back on Sunday for something a bit special.

But first, Jetfire joins the Autobots, Blackrock teams up with Barrett and we get some "Proper" hard science fiction as I look at:

Rock and Roll Out! Part 1.

ah yezzz this is some of the good stuff
its also widly uneven with plot holes and a loopy second half that seems its been ripped from the cartoon

but when its good its very good

it introduces glimpses of cybertronian culture but as you said the big introduction are the memory banks
and all the implications that come with it
that transformers are potentially immortal not only could they survive 4 million years or more but they can also regularly back themselves up to maintain well actual immortality and for once shows how alien these beings are

it also begs the question if these are back up copies of these 5 autobots what happend to the orginals ?
are they still back on cybertron or did they die in the past 4 million years ?
sadly the comic never attempted to explore these ideas and opted for cartoon tom foolery

it also begs the question if ratchet cant repair several autobots including sunstreaker how the hell did the ark build 5 fully functional bodies then ?

or why neither side ever thought about copying their troops and sending in what are basically clone cannon fodder ( and all the implications there off this has rumbelings of the rebel flesh )
possibly that idea was a bit too gruesome and far reaching for what basically a toy comic

or maybe im just over thinking the idea
but it is a evocative idea to be sure

the new autobots also each get their own personality and this comic along with destruction derby endeared me to smokescreen

oh and more then meets the eye is good isnt it ?
its very very good and i woudl dare to go so far that its the best transformers comic idw has published in years
and transformers has not been this good in years

and i happen to like regeneration one so far

it also seems i have been around reading this blog for nigh on a year
so do i get any cake ?

and ill be here sunday

Everyone gets cake!

More Than Meets the Eye is indeed exemplary, anyone glancing at this site who isn't reading it should really go give it a go. If nothing else it will make more sense of my slightly stalkerish attitude to James Roberts.

mtme is so far the most consistently good tf series there has been with issue 13 being my absolute favorite
its utterly deranged

rid might be where the real story is ( i wasnt too pleased to see megatron return and im still waiting for starscream to do his same old thing ) but mtme is the most fun

The mind crystals are a real problem. The implication is that no Autobot ever has to die permanently. They could have copied all the Autobots’ minds the moment they awakened on Earth in case anything happened to any of them (which it did). Optimus Prime could have made a backup of himself before his death at the hydrothermocline plant. Although, I suppose in a way Ethan Zachary did that for him…maybe this mind crystal thing is foreshadowing that Optimus’s mind can be copied and loaded into a new body later!

I would also accept Bernie Casey as Walter Barnett if I were casting a “Transformers” movie in 1985.

Interestingly there’s a scene in “They Call Me Mr. Tibbs!”, the sequel to “In the Heat of the Night,” with Virgil Tibbs coming home from work and lecturing his son for playing with toys on the carpet, and it’s a lot like Walter and Stevie Barnett.
