The Constructions arrive as Blackrock's moustache departs. Are these two events connected? But what you'll really remember is Bomber Bill. Who has a distinct advantage over Circuit Breaker in that he wears clothes.

All in my look at:

The Next Best Thing To Being There! Part 1.

This issue is not the first to feature Janice Chiang’s lettering, as she already lettered issues 2 and 3 (US), but it’s the first time we see her lettering in her own style, looking a lot more like itself if you will.

The art is pretty good by comic standards. The penciller previously worked on “Star Trek” comics for DC, and seems to have tried to think in three dimensions when drawing the Transformers, even if the model sheets don’t show how. The first time we see Optimus’s head, it’s slightly above our eyeline, and the artist takes the trouble to draw an underside to the head. I’ve always loved that.

Apparently I agree with myself, as I left virtually the same comment on the next entry last night, not having remembered already saying it three years ago!

Blackrock’s desire to profit from Autobot technology is understandable as IIRC that is Jazz’s offer, and his bugging the phones is explained as being to prevent industrial espionage, but yes he does seem a little more like a cold-hearted corporate guy here.

His relationship with the Autobots seems to go through ups and downs. They get their Blackrock prepaid fuel cards to get fuel at Blackrock-owned gas stations, he goes to bat for them with Triple I, and he saves their bacon by bringing water to kill the Scraplets.

On the other hand, does he ever really get any Cybertronian technology, other than the evil car wash? And that wasn’t exactly to his benefit. At least he’s doing well enough to finance the Neo-Knights, so things must have turned out OK for him.

Poor Shockwave, if he only knew the Matrix was sitting in that chest that Prowl and GB are looking at!

I wonder what GB stands for?

There was a DC supervillain called Blackrock, who was created by a television network to be a rival to Superman, since stories about Superman always seemed to be covered by the network Clark Kent worked for, WGBS. (Clark Kent was a TV anchorman rather than a newspaper reporter for a while there in the 1970s.) Probably a coincidence, rather than Budiansky being inspired by the competition.

No, I’m wrong. Jazz only offered to protect Blackrock’s properties from the Decepticons.
