Transformation 328: No More Fun.

This week, it's the curtain call of several major characters, including at least one you'd have expected to make it to the end of the series.

Plus, Ratchet has finally had enough, Megatron gets confused and Shockwave is undone by bad eyesight.

All this and a couple of important commercial breaks (including a charity one I hope you all jump on) in my look at A SAVAGE CIRCLE PART 2!

Four weeks to go guys...

What a good death scene for Ratchet
Shame that Megatron, Shockwave, Starscream and Galvatron all survived or came back to life..

I had already read the last two US issues having just discovered comic shops (great timing!) so this was the last new to me story of the classic run. It's a strong denouement for several of the original characters yet leaves open the prospect of their return. Shockwave's fate inside here is sufficiently ambiguous that he could be easily revived and, yes, the Nucleon lead was clear at the time. When I wrote my own continuation script (long lost fortunately), pretty much the first thing I did was to have Shockwave become an Action Master, having recently picked up the toy. (At the time I had no idea Megatron had one, a sign of how limited information was without adverts.) However the cover is much more brutal, suggesting Wildman may have decided it was all over by now.

The Decepticon spaceships being left hidden for four million years is yet another example of why that concept just doesn't work with the way Cybertron has been portrayed in modern times.

When I saw that video cover displayed I didn't recognise Octane at the time (the colour scheme and head shape are different from the comic) and thought it was a sign the cartoon was clueless about Starscream. I didn't get to see the episode for a decade.

The video comp is interesting in that, by now, it was clear that Tempo only had a limited number of episodes of the series to draw from, with both episodes on this particular tape being re-released across several other tapes. Another sign of the winding-down of Transformers as a viable license.

If I remember, only two "new" further episodes ("Only Human" and "Forever is a Long Time Coming") would be released by Tempo Video, both after the comic ended.

Machine Man's explosive climax sounds exciting!

Have made a modest bid for the cards! These issues are so good, despite there being about 12 robots left in the cast. Furman seems to completely ignore Blaster's previous characterisation? I remain annoyed about how Death's Head defeated Shockwave that time. Non-Transformers shouldn't be powerful than our guys...

IDAS seems like a good organisation (from reading their “About” section on their website) and those toy photographs are lovely.

I guess that’s supposed to be Galvatron ripping red wires out of Shockwave and causing red flames, but it looked like blood to me too. That or pizza sauce. Poor Shockwave! I guess Megatron finally got his revenge for the events of “The New Order” and “The Worse of Two Evils.”

Today’s dictionary.com word-of-the-day was “finito,” with a Furmanesque definition that made me think of this blog:

finito

adjective [fi-nee-toh]

finished; ended.
