Transformation 301: Do the Delbo.

This week, it's a sad moment as the American series longest serving artist bows out.

By bending backwards so it looks as if his back is going to break and pointing in the air.

Plus, Cyclonus fails to pass the Galvatron test. But then neither does Galvatron. Fall hook line and sinker for my look at ISSUE 301!

Glad you mentioned the cover quality that's about to become to become a staple of transformers in it's twilight year. Of course, UK covers have usually been good enough to be large print posters anyway (even American covers given the UK colour treatment look pretty good) but now it's like they were aware that time was running out, so why not go for broke?

Also, Jazz was clearly decapitated, classic Delbo.

So here we are; my last ever issue as a child. I think the combination of the bleakness of "Rhythms..." and the promise/threat of the Neo-Knights put me off, as well as rapidly approaching being a teenager and deciding it was time to let go of some "childish" things. Oh, foolish me. I was so near the end, but didn't know it.

The next few months of the blog will he very interesting for me! :)

Getaway doesn't quite get away - his corpse is there next to Scourge's.

The flag is a bit weak (even Galvatron thinks so!) but I like to think this is the nuclear powers are just glad to have a reason to not bomb the Americas to ash. If there's still a semblance of resistance, you can fudge the issue for another day and use the propaganda of that flag to keep the masses from screaming for action.

Well, *I* was a fan of José Delbo’s art on “Transformers” (and in general). I’d put him in my top three “Transformers” artists in between William Johnson and Geoff Senior.

At first glance it looks like Galvatron is attacking Jazz with his crotch.

Great point about the parallel between Galvatron having no loyalty to his follower Cyclonus and then Unicron having no loyalty to Galvatron. See how you like it, Galvatron!

Destro watching his Iron Grenadiers work out on his yacht might not have looked so kinky except that Destro is reclining on the deck wearing nothing but his gold head mask and a nutslinger bikini. I wonder how *he* stays in shape! He’s not down there begging for more PT with his army.

That “TKATKA-TKATKA” in the “Next Week” section looks like Rick Parker lettering, which means we’re not only losing José Delbo but Jim Massara as well. Dark times ahead for art and lettering. But at least the next issue’s art is good, with Dwayne Turner’s sketched-looking Transformers having grown on me over the years.
