This week, Nightbeat hunts a spanner, Mysterious Purple Robot follows Starscream and Blurr is handy with his fists.

Plus, how do you intimidate Megabrain and what is Dreadwind's favourite colour?

It's all in my look at ISSUE 296!

With hindsight I don't know if the horror of this situation was "sold" successfully, the source of your entire race's life turning up MENTAL and EVIL! Magnificent stuff from Geoff Senior though. Also, why did Thunderwing/the Matrix want to come to the Ark? Did I miss that? Was it to kill Prime? Why not head to Cybertron? Do the Autobots know at this point Unicorn is coming? Sorry for all the questions.. how is that new bed Stu, hope it was worth the sweat and tears :-)

The new bed will be up tomorrow!

I think Thunderwing just wanted to slap Prime about.

It seems this issue contained a very rare thing - the death of a Marvel hero that hasn't been undone:

I agree, that moment of Blurr punching the evil Matrix entity at super-speed was awesome. And as I like to remind myself: someone wrote that! Kudos to that someone, Simon Furman.

Also agree: good lettering from Jim Massara (though a Google image search while checking to make sure I spelled his name right reveals that he has changed style and I don’t like his new digital lettering) and cool green word balloon backgrounds from Nel Yomtov.

*I* like the 1980s “Robocop” cartoon even though it is (obviously) less violent than the movies. However I missed it completely when I was a child and only saw it as an adult in 1995, when I found a VHS of the episode “The Man in the Iron Suit” for rent at a video store. By 1995 my 1980s nostalgia was strong enough to make up for any flaws in the show. I have since bought the VHS of that episode (though not the same one from the same video store—that was in another city) and found the remaining episodes archived on DailyMotion, and greatly enjoyed them now in my middle age. Violence isn’t everything, and besides, I also have all three of the original movies on VHS if want to see the “real” Robocop.

There was some neat creepiness with the BAT disguised with a rubber mask driving a truck back and forth on the highway nearest to the Pit. And the Stratoviper looks cool in a black heavy metal T-shirt!
