It's flashback central as we discover the outcome of the fight between Shockwave and the Dinobots that sent Ratchet to the Savage Land in the first place.

plus, Megatron has to lick anus like there's no tomorrow.

All in Repeat Performance! Part 1.

I think the image of Ratchet on his M.A.R.B. is so beautiful that it represents the entirety of Transformers fiction in my mind. It is the cover page for the file marked 'Transformers' in my brain. Whilst it is somewhat unfortunate that Ratchet looks like he's had an accident, a little recolour and I would happily wallpaper my living room with it (just one accent wall, I'm not daft).

I think this was one of the first few issues that I picked up back then and continued on with until the bitter end (fupp knows where they all went). Even as a child William Johnson's art stood out and his Ratchet is still the most perfect representation of the medic I've seen. His Shockwave is a thing of beauty too, the image where he transforms from gun mode to meet Megatron is pure class although it never quite matches the Mark Bright cover.

It's a shame that the guy only ever drew two issues, because he's second only to Geoff Senior in consistent quality. He manages to humanize and give an almost organic feel to characters made mostly of blocks; more so than Andrew Wildman ever could (I use him as an example, because I feel this was the effect he was going for especially in his black & white UK stuff).

Story wise I enjoyed the mirroring in the initial defeat of Shockwave by the Dinobots and that of Megatron. Their arrogance and an utter lack of self-doubt coming from different origins, but ultimately giving them the same weakness ...stupidity (of the Wile E. Coyote super genius kind).

The Machine Man back up strip was a absolute bonus and I loved every issue. Tom DeFalco, Herb trimpe AND Barry Windsor-Smith brought us a character that could out-prick Prowl in Iron Man 2020.

Sorry for coming to the party late and leaving a comment on a near year old blog, but reading it brought back some pretty vivid memories. The blog is excellent by the way, it's a pleasure to read.

TTFN.

Not at all Sir, always good to have feedback.

Fully agreed how nice the art is in these issues, the comparisons to Senior are more than apt.

Welcome aboard!
