This is a great punch-up indeed. Again, as one of the earlier issues that I read some of these images are seared into my mind, especially coming hot off the heels of Time Wars' equally brutal scraps. What a thing to give a child, eh?

(It's a shame we didn't get a Horri-Bull/Tantrum fight, but Scorponok's claws are a pretty good substitute and I do enjoy Tantrum's annoyed "Urk")

I like the coda with the Underbase as well - I had no idea until now it was from the following American issue. It's suitably evocative and haunting and sets up what's to come nicely.

Best bit of the letters page is "Degenerate Xaaron". Come on James, lets see it!

Don't think I had ever seen this issue. My mum kindly had a subscription for me at the local newsagents but sometimes the issue just need turned up. Getting issues would become harder from this point onwards. It seems quite quaint that you could get "transformers" in a WH Smith. Was it one of the best selling UK comics ever? I would love to see more artwork from this issue, it is ringing no bells so I can't have seen it.

I've a feeling I must have missed odd issues as well as there's a couple of black and white stories I didn't remember at all. Odd that.

One of Delbo's better efforts but the best is yet to come with Furman's first USA story.
..Well already came at this point of time.

That panel with Bomb Burst slurping Soundwave’s arm is scary, especially if you’re a fan of Soundwave.

Speaking of scary, having those Underbase scenes as a cliffhanger is great, although the lettering won’t match as we go from Bill Oakley to Rick Parker. At least their lettering styles have similar proportions, though. It’s not “portrait” in one panel and “landscape” in the other (as it would be if we switched to the excellent Janice Chiang).

IIRC, in the panel with the Major Bludd reveal, someone forgot to colour in the trickle of blood coming from the corner of his mouth, making it look like he’s drooling.

That Rampage Vs Apeface's arm panel is really the best and worst of Delbo, isn't it? Great fluid motion and momentum on Apeface, delivering such a vicious blow that it's knocked Rampage in to his character model sheet pose. I know that when most things get knocked upside down their legs stay rigidly under them.

The colouring here is also a massive let down after the vivid red apocalyptic skies of the previous story. Even as a kid I noticed it. I wonder if the change between US and UK stuff would have been noticeable to me without the colour differences.
