Transformation 19: What Did You Do During The War Auntie?

This week what is arguably Furman's weakest Marvel story trundles on very slowly. Thing are however livened up by Megatron's gold shirt and magnificent ass. All in:

Raiders of the Last Ark Part 2.

A strange thing to note is that, despite normally only getting just over 100 visitors on a day when an update is made yesterday the site got over 400 hits. I've no idea why (and I'm not going to pay for one of those services that tell you that sort of thing as knowing what people search for on the internet is probably not a good thing) but it's probably not for my mad photoshop skills as the piss poor way this weeks title is cut out. Believe it or not, that was my third attempt.

There are some free webstat services out there like Google Analytics and StatCounter though the code can be a little tricky to install on some sites. But you're right that one may not want to know just what people are searching for - some of the terms and combinations are downright bizarre!

Having checked, it was only 78 people looking at the site 400 times. So I'm just going to assume with my ego that they really, really liked the place.

A good fun read as ever, Dalek. This story does suck rather, doesn't it? The gold vest is a thing of beauty however. I think one of the contributing factors to G1 Megs never getting much updated toy love (apart from the handgun alt mode, natch) is his dull as ditch water colour scheme. I'd buy a gold vest Megs, for sure.

Oh, I also wonder if the part IV reference may be Star Wars "A New Hope" joke? Maybe...

I think the problem with Megatron's final character design is it's just very dull and generic looking in an attempt to try and get as far away from the toy as possible. Compared to Prime, Soundwave and Starscream who all have simplified but still very iconic looks he never stood a chance.

Conversely, I think the more toy based design used in these early issues makes him look very short and stumpy. Prime looks like he could beat the shit out of him easily.

Auntie doesn’t look too bad on the cover. She looks like a cross between Virulina from “Visionaries” and Rom’s girlfriend, Brandy Clark, when she was a Spaceknight called Starshine.

The name Aunty is used in the US comic, issue #1, when the Autobots awake in 1984 and decide to watch the monitors in the Ark to learn about Earth. Did the comics ever call her Teletraan? Or was that only the cartoon?

In that ad He-Man looks like Hulk Hogan in the clip of him fighting the Ultimate Warrior, filmed from an angle that it makes it look like he’s getting a blow job, shaking his head as he climaxes.

There’s an issue of the “GI Joe” comic near the middle of the series where Zartan manages to shoot Serpentor in the eye with an arrow from a great distance, just as Serpentor is, coincidentally enough, reminiscing about the Battle of Hastings. I wonder if that got censored in the UK?

The UK Joe reprints never got that far.

Teletraan was indeed just a cartoon thing at the time.
