It's the climax to Space Pirates in which Arcee totally aribitarily decides to put Hot Rod to the test to see if he deserves to be Autobot leader. Tuns out Keith Harris is just as qualified.

Plus! It's that time of year again. My now traditional Christmas quiz, once again with amazing prizes! As it's starting late this year it runs to the end of the first week in January, and you could impress all your friends by winning.

The DWM strips are done by Tim Quinn and Dicky Howett, I believe, who still contribute a gag strip to the wonderful Fortean Times.

Thanks for the info, I did wonder if it might be their regular gag strip guys, but without a credit and not being familiar with their style I went for Stringer as it felt a bit Stringerish.

I used to think the same when I was a kid. I think Lew Stringer now does do DWM's gag strip!

It's important to remember just how important these characters were in the 80s when you think about their treatment in the comic. Transformers was big! It was the biggest toy/cartoon/movie/comic franchise with bath soap lunch boxes, pencil cases and every thing.
It was kids stuff and yet here in the comics the characters were treated in a very adult way, there was ramance, violence that would require an 18 certificate if they were human and not robots, corruption, betrayal the lot. Never again will a toy tie that's for kids and is huge be able to get away with the things that Simon furman did. Heroes, bleeding and strung up and crucified. Heroes that kill in cold blood. Villains that bite their opponents. The slaughtered of innocent civilians. This comic was revolutionary and broke boundaries and I still don't know how they got away with it. Can you imagine seeing power rangers hung up or even bleeding, or Pokemon loosing limbs?

That's mostly because they are robots.
You can get away with a lot if the characters are robots.
G2 was even more violent and probably even more violent then general 1990's comics which were already extreeeeeeeeeeeeeeme.
And because there was no blood and no squishy bits flying around the violence was awwwwright.

Hasbro was at this point mostly indifferent about Transformers, it was a huge earner for them but not a tentpole franchise. These days its 30 years old and carefully fostered and nurtured and it's wild west days are firmly over.

At least Furman never talked down to his audience.
Dreamwave mostly pandered to nostalgia ( and over did it )

Power rangers is a imported and re edited version of the Super Sentai series.
So who knows what exactly the Japanese series looks like or how much violence ended up on the cutting floor.

I think the comic was now being printed on newsprint. Certainly the paper is similar to a type used by a number of non-Marvels in this period but it doesn't have the same sense of quality as the regular stock.

It's a pity because it's a stock much closer to that used on the US title and I feel does a far better job at absorbing the inks and colours. Nel Yomtov's style has other problems but it's not helped by the glossier paper used on the UK book let alone the stock used in the Titan trades which really show up the strengths and pallets used. When much later on the UK book put some or all of the US strip on it the results are incredible - compare, for instance, Megatron and Ratchet's full page shots in issues #308 & #309 (or was my copy of the latter an anomaly in having the newsprint on the outer pages?).

You guys not only got a /Galaxy Rangers/ comic, you got a /Captain Power/ comic too? I was a fan of the /Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future/ TV series and never knew there was a comic!
