Transformation 107: Brawl Your Eyes Out.

Shockwave is Iago, Megatron is Othello, and that can only mean Brawl is Desdemona. It's still better than getting a white guy and putting boot polish on his face though, right?

All in my look at Gone But Not Forgotten! Part 1.

[It may look as if I've already forgotten the human losses tote, but I'm saving that for the end of the story. Honest.]

I always thought it was one of the great wastes of the comic that the Straxus/Megatron thing goes nowhere. As a kid I was fascinated to see who gained the upper hand, and in retrospect it seems so odd that Furman had the mind transfer thing happen - he must have known that Megs was on his way out and that he'd have no real control of the comic when he did. Very strange.

Having said that, any chance you can scan the Transformation page? I'd be interested to see how they try to spin it.

A brilliant and sadly usually overlooked comic instalment this week. Imagine a kids comic now having the balls to write out the lead baddie in such a fashion and to show a HEAD BEING CRUSED WITH BARE HANDS. That sequence really frightened the life out of young Ralph.
Proably the only time Megatron was genuinely scary.

Brawl's big visor does lend itself perfectly to the visuals as well, it's like it's designed with being slowly smashed in mind.

GAME OF THRONES SPOILERS

So all of this crush-his-head-with-your-bare-hands stuff seems oddly well-timed in light of Sunday's gruesome 'Game of Thrones' ep!

Just goes to show what you can get away with when your cast are robots.

In contrast to last issue, this one is most familiar to me from the original US printing. In about 1996/7, at a time when the franchise seemed dead here (I think HasKen took a deliberate break so we wound up about 12-18 months behind on Beast Wars), I found the issue in the clearance box at Skinny Melink's, a wonderful independent comic shop that used to be in Lewisham. Transformers issues were very rare back then but never had silly prices, as though the market had given up on them as well.

Reading the US version first and not getting to see the British one for a long time did make me wonder how the British printing had pasted over everything from this being the Predacons' return to the mention of the Cobra alliance (which is a major continuity error in its own right - it was only formed after Shockwave took power and once the Decepticons had relocated to Florida). I was also surprised at how open the series was at this stage about Prime surviving on a computer disk - if you've only read #106 and not #105 then it's easy to assume the former's epilogue is an ambiguous option to make Prime's return possible but a surprise.

And Dead End and Drag Strip get confused again. (And corrected again.) How many times has this happened by now?

Storywise it's quite a good piece, focusing heavily on the characters in a quite dark way (but I already knew Brawl would soon be back) and a chilling glimpse at what can go wrong when a powerful being succumbs to insanity.

and where afterdeath is abslute garbage the worst of thwe worst up there with monstercon from mars and cash and carnage and the wrasseling issue

this one is budiansky at his very best
and one fo the few times where megatron is absolutley viceous and credible as a threat

its a far better story and more dignified send off then optimus got from budiansky thats for sure

and together with the first 12 or so issues of the series and with issues 16 and 17 gone but not forgotten stands as one of budianskies best transformers issues

this is probably the time he should have vacated the postion as writer though
