This week, meet the idol of millions you've all been waiting to meet as everything changes once he arrives.

Yes, it's time for Leadfoot.

Also a big purple guy as I look at Spotlight Galvatron!

I'd never read this one before. Great art. Were they setting Unicron up as part of the dead universe?

Never seen Furman mention Unicron, but you never know.

I'm tardy with getting my comments in for this one (I could blame life in general... so I will), but I think it speaks volumes that having read this issue just before you made this post (with the hope that I'd actually respondin time), less than two weeks later I can't remember a thing about it, and had to re-read your post to remind myself what happened. In which you also mention how forgettable it is - seems like there's a lot of that going round. Hmm. I wonder if something being completely forgettable and a pandemic of forgetfulness would ever make a good story point..? Nah. Seems way too far-fetched.

But yeah, this really should have been a side-plot in one of the main -ations issues. As a stand-alone... well it's not, is it?

I've already forgotten it.

Stuart, I'm with you on being a minority that prefers Galvatron to be Megatron reborn... although I wasn't sure it was a minority?

Either way pre knowledge of where IDW is going to take this character is not a boon here. You're right in a way that this story is forgettable but it's also a nice tease to show us that Galvatron can't die (again) and is supremely powerful. I guess.

All this said... Galvatron is my actual favourite Transformer. Ever. There, said it. And I really don't like the IDW version. Not because he's separate to Megatron, it's just that he's not a very good character, and some of his redesigns look... terrible. (Not the case here - Guido makes one of the most gorgeous Galvatron designs ever and if I have to say a good thing here, it's the art is A+ in this issue).

That his ultimate fate is decided in the same scene where the ultimate fate of another of my favourites, Astrotrain, is decided is also bad. Actually that whole arc is bad. But we're jumping years ahead.

So yeah, for me Galvatron IDW doesn't work. The Dead Universe stuff is promising but doesn't deliver; Heart of Darkness is terrible; the zombie stuff (in the way it's done) has no place in Transformers (City of Death did it better); Dark Cybertron is I feel underrated and great epic but Galvatron isn't the main villain; the Galvatron leads the Decepticons arc is generally all over the place and it ends really limply. All in all, a fail of a character who really deserves better.

I'm also a fan of Galvatron-as-future-Megatron. Possibly because Altered Image was the first story I experienced where I learned what time travel paradoxes are. And the idea of a Megatron that's been twisted or altered in some way is great for stories. But yeah, if you also want to keep Megatron around then you kinda have to do time travel (or at best parallel universes). And the problem with that approach is that it means Galvatron usually has to be the focus of every story he's in. Also, I assume writers will want to avoid just repeated either Marvel UK or late Marvel US.

Still, I've finally ordered the grey coloured Generations Selects Galvatron so I am a happy bunny and will soon be balancing him on top of one of my Ultra Magnus figures.
