In some ways I'd like to know more about the Verity/Magnus relationship, but part of me also likes that it's clearly a big thing that means a lot to both of them that we basically know nothing about. Not everything needs an explanation.

I said this on Twitter, but whilst I do like the ironic Ironfist commentary showing that he has no idea what being a Wrecker is like, I do feel like it's a bit close to making the Wreckers look incompetent. I don't mind them being a bit chaotic and maverick, but at times here they come across as a bunch of children running around with no idea what they're supposed to be doing. Which makes Springer look incompetent by assocation, and I've always got the impression that he is supposed to be a better leader than that.

Well this is a slight change to last week's issue, isn't it?

What superlatives can I add to it though that you've not already said? I will say that, in the same way that these bursts of Roche freshness (there's a phrase to never be used again) are keeping us going through this re-read, these issues are what kept me going with IDW during this period. Because if they were capable of actually putting out stuff like this that's so damned good, then maybe there was hope for the other titles... And I suppose there was. Eventually.

But this is a great episode that rattles along wonderfully, with a great mix of action and characterisation, sacrificing nothing for the sake of the story. It also really highlights how both creators are children of the Marvel UK stories as we start to get into some real body horror now, of the kind that's only possible because these characters are "robots". The discovery of Max's fate is also a shocking one, considering what a big player he was in the original Marvel comics (although to be fair he suffered a fair deal there, too) and it's certainly one that sticks in the mind. But again, it's not for shock value, it all serves the story.

So yeah, just a great issue, really. And can't wait for the next one. Although that does mean that once these are gone then it's just a sea of Costa for a while, so maybe I shouldn't wish them away too soon...
