Revisitation 68: Riveting Stuff.

This week, it's deals all round as Shockwave plays his phallic hand, Sunstreaker shows what a good undercover guy he is and the Headmasters become Deadmasters.

All as I look at Maximum Dinobots Issue 4!

Plus, in celebration of passing 1000 followers on Twitter, in the next week or so, I'll be posting a special Transformation update looking at the (in theory) Marvel continuity Secrets and Lies miniseries.

Yep, "not quite as good as the previous issues in this series but still miles better than All Hail Megatron" is probably the best way to summarise this issue.

It's not bad, not at all, but at the same time it does feel like there's a lot of padding, and that the story should somehow have concluded by now. I think if the Dinobots hadn't kept doing more u-turns than the Tories and the Monsterbots hadn't been involved at all then the story could have been brought to a close this issue. And it really feels like it should have been. And not that the story is bad, of course - Hot Rod's predicament, Sunstreaker versus Scorponok and Hunter's (seemingly) rather final solution to their plight are all affecting. But it should've come a lot sooner and, ironically enough, it's the inter-Dinobot politics and conflict that have been the least interesting aspect of this series so far. Such is the way of things.

The art isn't bad at all, but as you say, the two styles do really jar when up against each other, and that's not fair on either artist. And both styles have their place on this book, with Raiz's robots looking suitably large and terrifying (which is very fitting for the Dinobots), and Roche's action being as dynamic as ever.

The thing to keep an eye on now, however, is whether bursting through walls to attack humans is going to become Ravage's signature move. He did it in this issue, and back in Hearts of Steel. Keep watching this space, I guess. This space, right here. If nothing else it'll save you from reading the next issue of All Hail Megatron...
