This week, there's no flies on Spike, Rumble finds out it's better to be dead than red and vitally important and popular character Charles makes his big move.

All as I look at All Hail Megatron Issue 9!

From next week, I start a new job with different hours, so the posts may shift about a bit as I decide whether to keep them on a Friday or go for a Sunday instead.

congrats on the new job.
Saturday will be fine I think, something to look forward too.

...Unlike this issue.
Complete and utter garbage.
Utter, utter tosh.
There is nothing redeeming about this.
Nothing.
The art is insipid.
The writing vile.

And the "surprise"reveal of Prime almost going, "oh hai gaiz here I am hurr" instead of being this triumphant return to form just falls flat.
There isn't just any explanation to paper over the "difficulty"in repairing Prime it's not even paid lip service.
It's glossed over.
And McCarthy hopes the reader is dazzled, or just too surprised to ask questions.

It's terrible hackneyed lazy writing.
It's so utterly terrible, horrible/ i am actually running out of words to convey how awfull it is, and trying really hard not to start swearing.

Words cannot convey just how awfull this piece of garbage is.
It's like it went through somebodies dog and thi i s the result.

Editorial wasn't just asleep at the wheel at this point.
It was a full on car crash.

And after this point it will only get worse, because craptoon mode wil be in full effect.
And i hate the cartoon.

Well, I feel that I should probably try and say something positive about this issue, just for balance... but I live in the UK, and I know what trying to achieve balance has done. So I'll just settle for: Everyone's not wrong - this is irredeemible dross.

This was, in fact, the point where I very nearly cancelled my standing order for the Transformers comic. After waiting a month (or thereabouts) for the next installment in the story that I wasn't invested in anyway and was actually mildly angry at (for derailing Furman's stuff), we get... this.

The Earth-based art is... it's not great. Stuart's already been over the faults in this, but suffice to say that at the time it just felt lazy. The Cybertron stuff is fine, but that just makes the Earth-based stuff even worse.

But it's the writing. It's terrible. As Stuart says, so many moments that should work but don't. And Prime's sudden and inexplicable recovery. There's literally nothing to suggest that they're even close to getting him back to full operating levels at any point, so the dramatic reveal just comes from nowhere and makes no sense. It's just terrible.

The thing that really got to me at the time was the fact that fine, the writing might not have been up to scratch this issue. And fine, occasionally some dodgy art might get handed in. But the fact that the editorial team looked at this and thought that it was fine to be put on shelves is what really took the piss. It just really felt like, as Snowkatt puts it, that they really were asleep at the wheel and just weren't paying any attention to this comic at all. And that's what nearly made me stop buying - if they didn't care, why should I?

Although - and here's a conspiracy theory worthy of McCarthy's plotting - maybe that's deliberate? Maybe McCarthy was getting ignored by editorial and this was him just trying to see what would happen if he tried to sneak nonsense stuff through?

...

Nah. It's just terrible writing.

The best thing to come out of the issue is your conclusion. It's also the best description of jeans, so two birds and all that.

Congrats on the new job as well. Sorry if I missed it on Twitter

One thing that's always annoyed me about the "McCarthy is criticising the Furman run" is that I don't believe that Furman was saying that the Autobots SHOULD have been acting the way they were. It's fairly obvious that the lesson they were going to learn was that they can't treat these alien planets as dispassionate resources to fight over.

It reminds me of all those people who criticise a character in a film for saying something not realising that a character saying a POV isn't the same as the writer saying a POV
