So issue 7 is the perfect poster child for the AHM series as a whole. All sound and fury, boring empty exposition and ludicrous plot swivels, signifying nothing and going nowhere.
A complete and utter mess.
GAH. Dammit. I was going to use the whole "sound and fury signifying nothing" line, but didn't get a chance to pop over to the site yesterday. That'll learn me, I guess. *sulks*
But there isn't really a better way of describing it. Lots of good art, some of it some good stuff from Su, but not showing us anything at all new. Which, when you have to wait a month for the next issue, isn't really a great way of making sure that readers come back.
The last time that I read All Hail Megatron I don't remember minding it too much. But then I think I read it by way of the Hachette collection, and I read both the AHM volumes in one evening whilst sat in the garden drinking wine. Which I think helps. Reading one issue a week is reminding me of just how painful the whole experience was when the issues were originally published.
And it's a shame, because there are a couple of nice things in this issue, as you say. Namely creepy Bombshell and the start of what'll be some significant character work for Thundercracker. But that's lost in just so much padding that you really lose sight of it.
Not the worst issue of AHM so far (although that's not saying much), but also far from great. Heigh ho.
Looks like we all agree on this one...
Sadly, the worst is yet to come.
AHM as a whole is dire but 9 is the absolute nadir.
If memory serves, issue 9 was the point at which I started to question whether I wanted to keep buying these comics. We'll find out for sure soon enough if my memory is correct...
I held out until issue 6 of the Costa disaster and then I bailed.
That series just felt like AHM v2 a confused purposeless mess that was treading water and went nowhere and it was an ongoing.
The only thing that kept my interest afloat at the time were Maximum Dinobots and Last Stand Of The Wreckers.
But those were just two 5 issue mini series, and they can only do so much when the main series is garbage.
I bailed untill MTME in 2021 and i got mixed feelings about that too.
AHM has a few flashes of brilliance but on the whole its garbage
and issue 7 feels like a desperate attempt to retcon the entire story and spacker over all the continuity issues, to try and appease the old fans, in lieu of no new fans.
So it failed and did not even have the conviction to fail on it's own merits
Stuart Webb. Who knows everything about nothing and not a lot about that.
