Yes folks, that's 50 of these. That's very nearly an armful.

And what better way to celebrate the half-century than with the most beloved of all Transformers?

He's shaking it like a polaroid picture as I look at Spotlight Wheelie!

I must do these comments in rhyme.
A Spotlight on Wheelie? Now, let us be blunt.
Most fans did consider him then to be a character that they really didn't like. (Okay I can't carry on with this.)

I was actually surprised by how much I liked this issue, both originally and on re-reading. I think it had only been a couple of years prior to this issue when Wheelie and Daniel had both been killed off in a Botcon comic, and I was expecting something equally mean-spirited here. But actually this is a really nice story, which starts out with Wheelie being the brunt of the joke, and ending with him being someone you can really sympathise with and care about after everything he's gone through.

It is just a very neat, stand-alone story that does something a little different and does help you get to know a character. I would agree that maybe more time spent with Varta might have helped flesh out their relationship, but for me I think that Wheelie spending more time on his own provides more impact to his change of heart later on.

I do also have to say that at the time I totally failed to notice that Reflector turned up later despite being killed here. Possibly because I didn't care that much about Reflector, or possibly because I just assumed that this was set in the future of the current comic. Either would have worked, really. So I was more confused when this continuity error was addressed later. But that doesn't affect my reading of this issue.

So in all, yeah, a fun little comic. And as you say probably the most successful at actually highlighting an individual character. In a way that the remaining Furman Spotlights, which are really another -ations series under another name, really don't...
