Revisitation 32: Cy-Kill Lane.

This week, well it's been a hell of a week where you nearly didn't get Revistation because of internet issues.

But I'm having a better time than everyone's second favourite Gobot (Tux is the best, clearly) as I look at Megatron: Origin issue 2!

This issue is, indeed, far from great. In fact I'd go so far as to saying that it's awful. Which is a shame, because there are some tedious, lazy, and inspiration-free issues in this comic's future, and this story actually has some interesting ideas behind it - but the execution is terrible. The art's so poor you can't tell what's meant to be happening between panels, the colouring just makes everything murky, and there are so many beats missing from the plot that none of the character development (such as it is) makes any sense. A mess that really needed a harsher editor.

Just so I'm not being entirely negative, I do enjoy this version of Ratbat. Yes, the idea of him being humanoid may be a little hard to swallow (although it doesn't bother me so much), but I do like how he's a scheming capitalist bastard - that's a nice touch, and in keeping with his original Marvel depiction. It's not enough to save the issue, mind, but you know...

I don't prefer 'humanoid' Senator Ratbat to Recordicon version but I like his characterisation here as a scheming opportunist. I agree it's a highlight of a very mediocre issue. I want to like Origin but the art is just appalling.

I know art is very subjective but to me, in portraying a comic, it's crucial to tell a story and show us the intent of the script. When I can't fully tell what is going on or who is meant to be whom, the art is a fail - whether it's the actual pencil art, the inking, the colouring or all three.

Megatron Origin has a muted colour scheme which I want to like but with the art, it kind of ruins it.

Also, I find the cycle of Cy-Kill also tedious. It was a one note joke done to death.

How many more puns can I re-Cy-Kill?

Ah Dreamwaves, you disappoint even here in this half-life. Well at least James Robert's would later actually give Megatron an origin.
