Revistation 27: The Omega Kup.

This week, it's one of the most important and best issues of Transformers ever produced by any company.

Springer makes you shiver (and shimmer); Outback lengs a hand and Kup is Will Smith (or Charlton Heston) fighting a seeming army of the dead in my look at SPOTLIGHT KUP.

This really is a monumental issue, as you've already pointed out - the beginning proper of the Rocheverse, which is how I like to refer to IDW 1.0 (although not in front of Nick himself, of course - he's already responsible for my marriage and child, I don't want to give him too much). Whilst he does indeed have very few actual writing credits, the impact that those stories have, and the ripples that they cause, are so momentous that they end up affecting everything. And always for the better.

Of course, idiot me was a little put off when he first read this comic, back in the day. Knowing that IDW were trying different things with different artists - which was always fine - I was really unsure about the opening artwork. Until I figured out what the story was doing and it all clicked, and then I appreciated it for how good it was.

And it was - and remains - so very good. A nicely self-contained story with all the elements of introspection and body horror that we all remember from Marvel UK. Except that it's executed flawlessly.
And as another exploration of different-but-familiar takes on known characters that IDW had been doing so far, it works really well too.

The only thing I can really add to what you've already said is that amongst all the (what turns out to be) foreshadowing, Prowl does make a comment about turning a blind eye. Something that may or may not be relevant a few years down the line.

But yeah, fantastic stuff. And, I think it's safe to say that there's really nothing better than this. Aside from Roche's other works. Now I just have to hope he never sees this - I have an image of coolness to maintain...
