This week, you think you're a real man? Well, has simply having a haircut ever given you the body of Sylvester Stallone? No? Then you've nothing on Spike Witwicky as I look at the issue of the Mike Costa ongoing with his single best remembered moment.

It's the scrap of the century as I look at Transformers issue 8!

Hello! This is the very issue I was looking for. I still remember the first time I read it, I felt empty when I finished it. I find this to be the very worst Transformers comic by IDW. Yes, Spotlight Arcee may be the worst from Furman's run, but this is the anti-Transformers comic: It wastes times with an unlikable human, and the only Transformer that appears dies. I can´t say more about this issue, because you already said everything wrong about it.
And the Ironhide mini feels like an arc that was meant to last 2 issues, 3 if generous, because it doesn't have enough plot for 4. But that's Costa.
Anyway, thanks writing this. I'll try to comment more often

Is the "I hate machines... Those that make you stronger etc" thing supposed to be referring to the machine he's using to bench press with? Wouldn't it have been better to have him ignore that machine and just use free weights to make his point? Am I overthinking this?

The fight between Spike and Scrapper has always reminded me of the one between Cap and Giant Man in Ultimates. The construction site, the climbinb up to attack the face, dropping the beams.

And if Spike is based on Ultimate Cap, that explains a lot, because Ultimate Cap was a MASSIVE TOOL.

Apologies for once again being late to this comments party, and also it turns out that I've brought the same thing that everyone else - nothing except disdain for this issue. I'd tend to agree that this could well be the worst issue of a Transformers comic to date. And that includes All Hail Megatron.

Despite focusing on Spike, all this tells us is that he's a massive arsehole - something I think we already know. And the dramatic moment of him executing Scrapper has no impact whatsoever because we already know that, a) he's an arsehole, and b) the US military don't really appreciate the distinction between Autobots and Decepticons and would happily just exterminate the lot of them. Aside from Scrapper now being off the table, forever, there is literally no impact from this.

The art's not much better, either. For another of Costa's attempted "cinematic" openings (you can imagine that bench press being the opening few seconds of a TV episode - which would be fine there given that'd be like 0.1% of the episode, as opposed to the whole 5% of the issue as it does here) the art needed to be stronger, and it's not - it's workable, at best. Spike is, of course, just laughably drawn. But it is - sadly unsurprising - the one female character that suffers the worst. Despite being a high-ranking military official, in every pose she's stood posed "seductively" like a glamour model, which just doesn't work at all.

All in all, this is awful. The biggest question this issue really raises is how they managed to keep selling comics long enough to get us to MTMTE/exRiD/TAAO...
