Revisitation 47: Abandon Planet.

Just a very quick preamble this week as my dear old silly cat had to be put to sleep as I was working on this.

She'll be missed.

Anyway, here's my look at Devastation Issue 6.

Well, after last week's issue there certainly seems to be a lot less to speak about here, which you could take to be a bonus. Although, yeah, this issue is pretty terrible too - just for reasons of awful storytelling.

At the time the main, notable thing about reading this issue was knowing that All Hail Megatron was coming and, as you say, the assumption that Prime leaving Earth (which is a big thing) leading to that. So as unsatisfying as the issue was at the time, I was able to overlook it then because of what it was (or seemed to be) teasing. This time around, no such luck.

This issue resolves very little, leaves us uncertain as to the fate of major characters (Ironhide? Verity? Jimmy? Hello?), is horribly paced and is deeply unsatisfying. Whether Furman was now having a sulk because he'd had his toys taken away (and you can't really blame him for that) and that was affecting his writing we can't say. But it's still terrible. And such a shame, since Devastation did indeed start well. But here we are.

On the plus side, the art does indeed remain great. And I'd not twigged at all before that this Jhiaxus was a take on Bayverse Starscream - good spot. And obvious now.

So yeah, a disappointing end given how much I'd been enjoying the -ations series. But in ending like this it does at least properly set the scene and mood for everything that the rebooted ongoing series is going to deliver on in a big way - unsatisfying mediocrity...

I've the terrible feeling we don't see Jimmy and Verity again till right at the end of Maximum Dinobots...
