This week, the boys are back in town... and then quickly out of town as the Dinobots team up with Ironhide on a quest against an enemy that's pretty foxy, all in my look at Robots in Disguise issue 8, Dinobot Hunt!

Another solid Barber effort. Sadly the thing I remember most upon its release is a certain person on a certain forum going absolutely ballistic about the ending, thinking Barber was killing off Sludge and Snarl already. Their rationale was that Grimlock, Slag, and Swoop would then be the only Dinobots left, thus "aligning" things with Animated.

Which made no bleeding sense, since Animated was long over by this point and all five Dinobots were featured prominently in the Fall of Cybertron video game.

A possibly odd surprising comment to make (although not that odd given the time of night I’m posting this, for anyone that’s paying attention and/or cares) but this is the first partial misfire for me. Which makes it the ideal counterpart to the current MtMTE story. Haha. *sigh*

The main reason I say this is actually by way of being something of a convoluted praise to Barber - I don’t actually care about what’s happening in the “badlands”, because he made what’s going on in Iacon so much more interesting. And that should be a compliment, because, you know, Cybertron rebooted itself a few issues back - and what and why and how is the kind of thing that usually has my attention. And yet, because of how he’s handling the political situation on Cybertron at present it’s also not the most pressing thing, so yay for him for that.

And that’s not to say this isn’t a bad issue either - far from it. But at the same time you *know* something is going to go wrong with Ironhide taking the Dinobots out into wild territory, so it becomes a case of waiting to see what’s going to happen - and, for me, anyway, the tension of that is a lot less than the political tensions.

And those are really my favourite parts of the issue. You know that shit’s going to go down elsewhere, so the chat that Prowl and Bumblebee has is nice, and even more so with hindsight. Equally the chat with Swindle and Shockwave. There’s just so much going on there, and even reading it at the time with no foreknowledge that’s where the interest was.

So yeah, this is a good issue. It’s only problem is how good the stuff that came before it by the same writer was. Still, it remains compelling, and I’m looking forward to continuing the arc, so actually, at the end of the day, there aren’t many complaints here.
