Revisitation 115: City of Sin.

This week, it's the second ever IDW crossover event (remember the New Avengers?), as zombies take on the multiverse!

Not that the Transformers themselves meet the other franchises here, but wet your whistle with my overview of the first issue of the main Infestation series HERE.

Then, Elvis leaves the building as Galvatron just wants to be nice in my look at TRANSFORMERS INFESTATION ISSUE 1!

It's probably the weight of expectation that does it for me, with this being a non-Costa issue in the middle of a painfully-long Costa run, but this doesn't quite hit home for me.

Which isn't entirely fair. But nor is it completely unfair. It's a competent enough story, but it *is* just the usual staple of two teams fighting over a misunderstanding when there's a bigger evil to fight instead, and that has been done so, so many times. There are some nice gags in here, the Vegas crash landing being one of them, Galvatron actually trying to be helpful, and Prime deciding that only he can be the one to do the main hero grandstanding stuff, but since it's not part of the main ongoing storyline (or at least, that's how it seems) I find it difficult to care about anything that's going on.

Roche's art certainly isn't bad by any means either, and the slightly-more-cartoony-than-normal style is fun, but there's something about it that for some reason doesn't quite click with me - maybe it's the colouring, I'm not sure, but certainly I found his more recent work in the ongoing a lot better. But maybe that's more because of the story, I don't know.

So yeah, I guess this is a dumb, fun interjection. But, as you say, certainly not one that I'll be rushing to re-read in the future, either.

I was never convinced that Galvatron's personality quite matched with HoD. There he's calm and constantly waxing philosophical. Here he's technically trying to do the nice thing, but he's impatient and kinda a dick. Guess it was a communication issue between the writers.
