This week, what better way to become friends than homoerotic wrestling?

Drift is Winging it as he ties to settle into Crstal City, but how long can he stay in Lockdown? Find out as I look at Drift Issue 2!

In a way, this issue is a sign of what's to come for how the neutral factions would be portrayed in IDW. That is, being an unlikable, hypocritical lot who are quick to blame others for an unavoidable dilemma.

Of course, you can still make well-written characters who are unlikable, and I'm fully onboard for having more nuanced perspectives on the war. After all, I don't believe there should only be two sides to pick from, whether dealing in politics, moral dilemmas, or other complicated aspects of life. Hell, even Furman's ceaselessly relenting Optimus was eager to blame both sides for the war while shooting Thunderwing in the face for 3 whole pages.

At the very least, Wing was more understanding than Dai Atlas. He at least tried to have a thoughtful conversation with Drift about the war here, while Dai Atlas chooses to be an unlikable idiot.

Also, unless I read your first paragraph wrong, you mentioned that "The Circle of Light" doesn't come up in this issue. From what I'm seeing, the term was mentioned in page 2 in the second to last panel at the bottom and at the bottom of page 6 by Dai Atlas.

Blimey, you're absolutely right. My brain must have gone circle of light blind.

I'd say good catch, but it's more I missed the obvious 😅

I occasionally hear stuff about this artist that makes him seem... prickly. I always get the feeling that there's a whole lot of stuff floating about our there that I'm not privvy too. I do have to say that I wasn't originally a fan of his style (far too busy I thought) he did win me round in the end.

Whilst this issue may certainly feel a little bloated compared to the first one, it's also somehow still not as meandering, plodding, pointless and crude as Costa's ongoing, which in a time-order re-read makes me like this issue probably more than I should.

There's not a lot to add to what's already been said, with the big thing for me after the previous issue being surprisingly light on how super special self-insert Drift was here we're getting a whole issue all about it. It's not like we weren't warned though, so I guess I can't complain. And i do like that they're setting up his betrayal at the end, showing that he's not just going to magically repent after seeing just how brilliant Big Dave the Maps and his chums are - it's a little more realistic, I suppose.

As to the art, yes, Milne does have a habit of being quite busy, and that does get better under later writers when he gets more strict direction... and then it gets a lot worse again. But we're some way off of that at the moment, so his best is yet to come. And I can't say I'm too bothered at him killing off some possible names on the page - we've seen enough TFs sharing the same body types for it to be easily explained that they're not actually anyone important, and at least it's not bloody Cy-Kill, again. If anything what was more jarring was seeing all the names "hidden" in the architecture of the city. But he's the artist, he gets to do the drawing. And if editorial aren't going to get him to change it, why would he?

In all, this is still better than the ongoing, which remains very faint praise, but does mean I'm not dreading the next one quite so much,,,

Empty calories
But after a disgusting starbucks iced coffee, that tastes like burned sugar, a mediocre hamburger with drift stamped on it is just what you need.

But now we are in the IDW era we cant also not dance around the fact that the IDW as such is over, and that for the first time in nearly 20 years there are no TF comics currently being published.

Which let's be honest is very a very pecular situatation
IDW has had some wobbles and their output is very up and down. But they had a reliable output for nearly 2 decades
So its very odd that their comics are suddenly over, finished.
