Without wishing to sound like a broken record (Records, eh? What was that all about?), this could possibly be the worst issue yet.

Actually maybe not - the previous issue was still pretty dire, rivalling AHM #2 for that coveted spot. But this issue does nothing to actually correct the previous issue's failings, and thus whilst perhaps not technically worse, it does nothing to make up for that issue, and just feels equally bad as a consequence.

One of the problems I have with this issue was the art, so it's interesting to hear that explanation for things, because yes, Guidi is usually a lot better than this. But it's also baffling to learn that the change in character models was an actual editorial choice. Possibly to draw in new readers at the start of this arc and not have them wondering why everyone looked so different, but for me it just pissed me off that they've changed bodies yet again.

The story itself is certainly problematic, as you've already gone into, but for me the big problem is that multi-page combat sequence. Whilst this issue doesn't start with the usual inactiity, that sequence is largely without dialogue or text, and could have easily been condensed into two pages. As a consequence the "exciting" battle just feels overlong, and annoys more than it excites.

This issue then is certainly something of a disappointment, to say the least, and as the start of a new and exciting arc does not bode well...

If nothing else, the art stuff shows a baffling lack of competency in the editorial department. If you wanted your new artist to use a specific style (and one that's different from how the prior issues have looked), maybe tell him BEFORE he starts submitting pages?
