Addendum 11: The James Roberts Interview.

7/3/2015

Yes, after weeks of talking about it, probably seeming like a crazy man, it's time for what stands a good chance of being the highlight of my year, the James Roberts and Lloyd Young interviews on IDW's Classics UK books!

These can be read HERE.

Just for fun, I've also made a short video pimping the feature that can be seen below. I've no idea why the onscreen captions aren't working, but I've left it as is because it's funnier to see me being so inept.

Thanks again to James and Lloyd, splendid chaps, both of them.

Interesting to compare the way the annuals were scanned, compared to how they did it for the Doctor Who annuals on the DVDs.

For TF, they just plonked the annuals on a scanner then got rid of any shadows and stuff in Photoshop, whereas for DW they got old copies off eBay then cut the pages out so that they'd scan better!

I suppose Lloyd (and Tom who did my scans) didn't want to go so far on their own copies, a distinct lack of commitment. ; )

Big shout out to Lloyd Young, the unsung hero! It's great to see that Transformers is this big ... communal ... thing ... that anyone can contribute to, given the chance. I just love the foreign stuff, Berni Inn releases and Iron-on patches, this is as big a coup as the Roberts interview. Lloyd, if you're reading this, I salute you! TF fandom owes you a great debt.

Hi Ryan, thank you for such kind words! I certainly did read your comment.

I've been extremely fortunate being able to contribute to what I believe is a fantastic series and of course working with a great team at IDW.

I'm glad there was some content in Stuart's interview that caught your eye. We search high and low for rare material for each volume and it's fantastic being able to print one of a kind pieces or rare gifts that haven't been under the spotlight before. It's amazing how much weird and wonderful TF's content has made its way to comic book form.

In regards to the annuals, care is taken to scan each page flat by flipping the book. As fans of the comic, preservation is key :) The later annuals in particular received low print runs so the more we can keep in the wild, the more Transformers fans can enjoy the originals.

Many thanks, your comment made my day.

Amazing and insightful interview.
I have been picking up the collected editions since jump and have been more than satisfied with the material included.
Thanks for the great background info and i look forward to seeing more in the future with each new collected edition release.

I think I know the image of a full G1 collection Lloyd is talking about. Personally, I spent hours poring over that image as an 18-year-old. I'll have to see if I can find it.

Does anyone know when (or if) the final 3 volumes will be released?

Volume 6 is apparently now on course for the Spring, hopefully the rest won't be so delayed!
