Good stuff. It was only when scanning the things that I finally noticed Prime's grey arm on the cover. Bothers the Hell out of me now. I do love the early cover layouts with those big black bars - very grown-up and austere for a kids' comic. The title's actually pretty serious business in presentation before we started getting dodgy puns on every cover.

The first 20-odd are pretty interesting from the point of view that it's very much a robot/sci-fi catch-all that happens to be about Transformers - a bit like, say, Hulk Weekly only having about five pages of Hulk content

Oh that's it. Go and spread your grey armed Prime Problem. :( The eccentric (in relation to the later house style) covers are something I'm hoping to cover before the format change.

Having had a glance ahead at the next few issues, I think this is the first time I've seen any of the fortnightly US reprints, for issue 2 at least it barely qualifies as containing any colour, only two pages out of the 12 in the main strip. I'd guess that's why they moved the Autobot intro, so that it wouldn't be B&W, I suspect they'd have done the same with the Decepticons if that had been a full page as well.

Never knew that at least the first few second half US reprints weren't given pasted on titles, which is annoying as I was planning to cut and paste them into each write up. Though Inside the Spaceship style I could just randomly declare every odd numbered story just be called Transformers.

That practice of not putting a title on the second halves lasted right up until about the 120s. It could be quite confusing to see back issues which titled the strip on the Transformation page but see nothing on the strip itself. I think the credits followed a similar pattern but I'm not sure.

As the blog is currently at #223 it's interesting to think back to the original format the title launched with. Hard to believe it's the same book!

Comic books have been getting more and more decompressed over the years, so it’s not surprising it now takes four times as long to tell the same amount of story.

I look forward to upgrading to a robot body! It can be completely humanlike or all chrome and cyberpunk, as long as I get to be immortal and eternally youthful and beautiful. I feel like I’ve seen Hans Moravec’s name referenced or alluded to in popular culture somewhere, but Wikipedia doesn’t have anything.
