This week, Swoop leaves... and comes back, Grimlock joins the "Me" generation, Hot Rod lives up to his name and James Roberts cameos (again), all as I look at Maximum Dinobots issue 3!

Issue 3 is padding really.
it sets things in motion and puts pieces in place, but at least half of the issue is padding.
This could have been a very tightly plotted 4 parter.

But even as it stands it still better then AHM.
...Not a very high bar to clear.

The Dynobots breaking up and turning their backs on Grimlock though. has always felt the worst and most insincere kind of padding

Because not only would nobody reading this comic believe that for an second.
But also the speed with which Swoop returned to the fold, makes the entire thing tiresome and unconvincing.

It's like Furman wasnt even trying.
That whole "plotline "could have been removed, with no ill effect.

The monsterbots are a bit ..eh.
The fact that they are relegated to background bit players is not this story's fault.
But i was never really convinced seeing them as these dangerous maverick outlaws, because there is no set up. No back story we are just told they are and they act like the Dynobots.

As a whole issue 3 is solid enough, surely better then AHM 7...or most of AHM.
But it's stil padding.

Yep, "padding" is a very good way to describe this one. With the possible exception of the Shockwave stuff (which would seem implausibly ridiculous, except I've worked for big businesses, and the whole "let's try this whole failed idea again but ever so slightly different" thing isnt' actually that unlikely) this issue really doesn't contribute anything. The parts with Hunter and Hot Rod could easily have been condensed into a couple of panels in the next issue, and nothing much would have been missed.

Still, this remains much better than the so-low-it's-less-a-bar-more-a-line-on-the-ground set by All Hail Megatron, and that at the time this was published was enough to keep me interested in Transformers comics. And Nick's art is, unsurprisingly, great in this. Which certainly helps when the story itself isn't really delivering - it is at least gorgeous to look at.

Hopefully the next couple of issues of Grimlock MD won't suffer too much from more padding. But whatever happens, it's not going to be AHM...

Pretty much. I'll get the auto-post set up...

I don't know about that.
The 2009 ongoing by Costa has plenty of aimless wandering meandering, confusing overlong, plot lines that go nowhere and do nothing as well.

AHM is bad but that was not much better.
