Having very quickly come to love Su's work, there was always the question as to whether anyone could take over in the main comic with any degree of success. Turns out that this young Roche fella is one to watch.

But yeah, this is a pretty great issue. It's full of action, there's some fun character beats, and the dramatic arrival of the Autobots at the end is, indeed, a big, crowd-pleasing moment. Sure, Sixshot should maybe have been able to take Ratchet down faster, but you also get the impression that he's more of a big, blunt, indiscriminate tool used to do large-scale damage, not this sort of cat-and-rat. And you also get the impression that, since he doesn't usually do this kind of work this early, he's enjoying this. So it still works for me, and it is a great chase sequence. The only thing that lets the comic down, really, is reminding us that the Reapers exist. They really don't need to be here...

But Roche's art is, indeed, tremendous. The action sequences are just as dynamic as anything seen before, and he makes the character moments really work. And whilst it's very much Roche, it's also not jarring, and does fit in with what he's seen before. Great stuff.

It's a shame that this isn't going to last for much longer...

I'm one of the rare people who seem to prefer Roche to Su but that's fine; art is subjective.

However this is also my favourite part of Devastation... whilst I do also share the concern that if Sixshot is really a 'planet killer' how on Earth does Ratchet survive for so long against him? How does anybody else?

Out of the three named Phase 6ers, Black Shadow is jobbed to the DjD so we never see what he's about; Sixshot doesn't do as much as he's reputed to be able to do, even though he does have some moments; and then you have Overlord who IS legit of being a 'planet killer' but ironically he never really acts as a Phase Sixer as he leaves straight after being told to be one.

In other words, not a single one of the Phase Sixer's actually acts like one except the one guy who leaves being one.

All that said, fighting Sixshot, Black Shadow or Overlord in Infiltration Protocol mode in the Deck-Building Game is truly nerve wracking and the best use of the Phase Six idea so far. Shame it's in a board game and not in a comic, eh?
