In order to stop Megatron, someone will have to sacrifice their life. Will it be character with toy Grimlock, character with toy Blades, character with toy Flint, character with toy from Hull Wild Bill or Centurion, the guy no one seems to care about?

To find out, read my look at:

Ancient Relics! Part 5.

It's very telling that there are few comments on some of the crossover issues. Maybe a lot of fans never picked them up at the time - US fandom seems to have been totally unaware of the reprint in G.I. Joe European Missions - or since when filling out their TF collections. And of course the Titan trades left the story out, probably due to the AF rights being unavailable.

And if one doesn't have the AF issues in their collection it's easy to deduce the basics of a battle in London that ends with Megatron and Centurion plunging into the Thames. Which is pretty much all that actually happens here - there's some nice character moments and stepping up the hardware but, beyond bringing back Megatron and writing out a character who had already been destroyed once, the story's absence doesn't leave much out.

What's interesting is that, despite there not being a huge amount of comments on these crossover issues, the actual pieces I've done on Action Force have been hugely popular, with all of them getting more visits on update day than is normal for me (800 odd people looked at this on the day it went up, which may be a site record). It looks like Action Force fans are just a quiet bunch.

I thought the story was great for giving a bit-parter like Blades a decent role. So he appears as a Firestormer in G2 and perhaps Furman was none the wiser (and I also have no evidence for what I'm about to say), but I thought it was gloriously enchanting that a character like Blades should get some screen time when newer Transformers had since been put on the shop shelves.

In its own way it endeared me that much more into the Transformers comic, and maybe it did for other readers too. I vaguely remember some comments from posters at The Archive about how they enjoyed Blades getting his close-up. Even if he didn't do that much, he was still there, and more importantly he was messing around near the Thames, giving it more resonance (I lived by the Thames at the time. Wasn't bothered about Richard Branson, but to know that Blades and Megatron were knocking about in the sewers beneath where I did my paper-round was pretty cool).

Being a toy snob, Action Force was a turn-off for me, and the reason why I didn't buy the issues following the first part of this which appeared in the regular TF comic. Of course now I realise how silly that viewpoint was...

A pavane is a type of dance. I like that she has a black cat sidekick!
