The song quote opening the piece is a AIOTM one, so this is especially appropriate.

My own personal theory on this is that Time Wars was supposed to be a bit longer, but for whatever reason was truncated in a hurry. There's a lot is stuff set up here that's not paid off (the future Deceptions, Ultra Magnus, the Highbrow plot, the weird tower near the spaceship), and I always thought this is a story that needed a couple more issues (especially given that one was effectively 'wasted' on the Autobot v Autobot battle). I'd love to hear the behind the scenes story about this one.

I was going to post exactly the same thing! This issue always stuck in the mind both for its wonderful violence and for provoking me into asking my dad who this Canute chap was.

Regarding the theory that the Galvatron seen in the UK comics is actually built from the Straxus-Megatron - is it not actually the case that the reason Galvatron's memories of the Time Wars are wrong is actually *because* of the presence of the clone changing events. If it had been the real Megatron in Time Wars then things would have played out as Galvatron remembered.

Yeah, I've always been bothered by that assumption too. We know that this Megatron is definitely the clone, and by happy coincidence the clone keeps doing and suggesting things that Galvatron doesn't remember happening, which , post-retcon, always suggested that this was a different Megatron than originally lived these events.

It's an after the event change though - at the time this was clearly meant to be the real Megatron. I think it's more the case that Galvatron keeps deciding not to do things the same way as "last time" - note he first decides against resting and then opts to save Megatron from the path blaster. On both occasions past knowledge is causing him to change what happens but then he's struggling to grasp the consequences of it all. 18/4/2016 04:55:30 pm
And given the ending of Target 2006 where he assumes he has created a parallel timeline where nothing he does has any bearing on his future, basically none of his actions make much sense!

That assumption was made before his return to 2006 and subsequent return to the past, so maybe he realised in some way that he'd been conned, or thought that he knew how to do it 'right' the second time.

The thing is, he has to be wrong in any case. We know that Galvatron lived through a version of Transformers thr Movie in 2006. That doesn't really jibe with him also having gone through a 1990 where he fought alongside his future self and murdered half the Transformers race, including Optimus Prime. 6/10/2020 11:54:15 pm
By the end I think Galvatron is just collapsing into madness. He clearly has memories of fighting the Wreckers, of resting before pursing them, of Megatron having half his face blasted away and of Galvatron fighting Optimus Prime but they're only seeping through.

I'm still hung up on Altered Image. If Galvatron has any memories whatsoever of being Megatron then he'd definitely remember teaming up with his future self, but nothing in Altered Image indicates that Galvatron is just implementing a plan he's already seen from the other side. And as he's good and sane at the time he should remember something... In fact he only seems to start having memories of being Megatron after hanging around with Megatron. So maybe he's remembering a future he's actively creating but also distorting due to the time storm/Megatron actually being Straxus/building insanity. 17/4/2016 07:46:05 pm
Having just reread the whole of Time Wars, a few thoughts spring out.

<<And just as one villain is written off, another is restored to greatness. We've had a good arc as Megatron has successively fought off the influences of Straxus, Shockwave, Galvatron and his own madness. Now we're left with a rationale, scheming villain in the mould of Galvatron but with a real determination to avoid the mistakes both have made>>

The Canute reference was one of Furman's greatest - I later looked it up and it opened a whole new world. The art in this issue is also superlative. I know I keep going on about it but where is everybody? Just a quick glance at the cast list on the TF Wiki suggests all the Autobot cars, mini-cars, Pretenders, Aerialbots and Protectobots (SPECIAL TEAMS!) were missing. I was going to say "even Snarl was missing" - but I think he got sent to Limbo....

Presumably, with Ratbat's Decepticons largely absent here, the Autobot forces are somewhat split, what with *two* multi-part epics to contend with. This was also my eventual rationale for why Fort Max is so suspicious of Rodimus and co. - he knows full well that Hot Rod, Kup, etc. should be off spying on Ratbat's lot, not here messing with Galvatron.

And Scorponok and his lot are only here because of Highbrow, otherwise they'd be off with the rest. 22/4/2016 02:21:50 pm
Can anyone identify the little droid-like robot on the cover just by the headless Bruticus?

That’s a super-cute panel with Ravage and Shockwave. It reminds me of my cat asking me a piece of my dinner.
